Hawaii - The Whales of Winter .

Every winter in Hawaii they come. From cold northern lattitudes of Alaska and the Bearing sea they travel many thousands of miles in an epic migration to the warm waters of Kona Hawaii . I have watched this migration for over 20 years and as fall turns to winter the humpback whales arrive to visit warm Hawaiian waters for the winter.

This whale season provided some of the best weather and whale photography in many iyears. A number of friendly whales visited Kona this year and We had many long encounters some lasting as much as 6 hours drifting along in their company. So long in fact that sometimes the encounters lasted until darkness.
