Florida and the alligator road trip!.
After a wonderful trip to the Bahamas aboard the "Shear water' with Anna and Jimmy Abernethy, good friend Andy Salmon and I decided to take a spur of the moment road trip in search of alligators in the swamps of south Florida. no hotel , no plans, just a rental car a map and a few directions provided by contacts with other photographers.
We ended up in Big Cypress, Florida and started to explore this expansive area. Miles and miles of road and waterway sped by until finally we found the perfect spot to photograph. Where is that? Well thats a secret. Did we find gators? You bet lots and lots of them! The trick with them is finding the right one and using remote cameras to capture some unique angles to a much photographed subject. We spent are time working on split images. Scenes that wouldbring both the underwater and the landscape both into the image .We spent 3 days in the swamps and shot over 2,000 images. 3 days later I returned with Anna Abernethy and took the shot above with her as a model.
Somtimes the best plan is no plan at all. Just follow the road less travelled and find out where takes you.
